ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP

The Wisconsin Underwater Archeological Association (WUAA) www.wuaa.org is pleased to announce an underwater archaeology training workshop in partnership with the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) based in Portsmouth, UK. Internationally recognized, the NAS program provides the knowledge and skills to help people get involved with maritime archaeology projects in Wisconsin and around the world.

This one-day workshop offers an introduction to maritime archaeology, combining a mixture of classroom and practical sessions. The course aims to promote archaeology more broadly, but to also provide specific content that pertains to Great Lakes maritime history. This introduction course will also introduce topics such as dating methods used in archaeology, artifact identification, as well as how current legislation applies to our underwater cultural heritage.
By the end of the day participants will:
- Have been introduced to the basic principles and scope of maritime archaeology.
- Be able to analyze and create 2D scale illustrations of underwater archaeological sites.
- Have an understanding of your rights and responsibilities concerning underwater heritage in Wisconsin.
- Be qualified to pursue further NAS credits, which apply to future conferences and higher-level training courses.v
